During this project I have explored the theme of events in many different styles of photography, which range from:
[FRUIT LIFE CYCLE] – For this shoot I used Basic Sequence Photography – When you edit the images so they are next to each other, the photos look better if they are changing, such as decaying or growing, thus natural subject matters are better to shoot as they are more prone to decay. This style of photography relates to events because it portrays a section of time in one image. It is also a way of capturing change in a still image, which shows numerous events in one photo.
[AMAL ASSAF] – This shoot was a Close Up Shoot of Dubai 70.3 Ironman – In this shoot, I took multiple close-up shots of items that you would need to allow you to complete a triathlon, such as trainers for running, a bike for cycling and goggles for swimming, This shoot relates to events because the Dubai 70.3 Ironman is such a big event as thousands of people take part and thousands of people watch.
[SLINKACHU] – This shoot was a Close Up Shoot of Mini Figures – For this shoot, I took photos of couples getting married, and tried to also use household items to compare them to, such as tape. This shoot relates to the theme of events because it portrays how even though what’s happening in their life is important at the time, in the greater scheme of things it is irrelevant compared to bigger events, this is highlighted by their small size.
[ROBERT CAPA] – Army Soldiers Shoot – This shoot is of toy soldiers fighting, I tried to make it look like they were in a war zone by positioning them in certain ways and using different scenes such as sand, grass and jungle. These photos relate to the theme of events because their minimalism shows how such an important event such as war, which has allowed millions of people freedom now is often not recognised anymore.
[ALPHA SPOTTING] – This was a Long Exposure Shoot – This shoot I had to stop halfway because of Covid-19 but was meant to consist of different cityscapes with enhanced colours due to the slow shutter and light trails from cars. This relates to events because he shows you what happened during a certain time frame as it isn’t just a snapshot like a fast shutter photo.
[EADWEARD MUYBRIDGE] – This shoot was shot using Complex Sequence Photography – Editing multiple images on top of each other to make the same person or object appears multiple times. For this shoot, my sister modelled for all because we were stuck inside the house due to isolation. This series of photos relate to events because they show what happens during other events such as watching tv, you change positions to get comfy and what you do in your bedroom.
[YU TSAI] – Style Portraits – This shoot is of things my sister does throughout the day, for which I took close up images for, it relates to events because it shows the minor events most people go through in a day without noticing or caring for such as eating and sleeping.
[COVID-19] This was my final shoot with advanced experimentation, for this shoot I took images of my dad stressing, being engulfed by the news and portrayed insanity isolation can result in. In this shoot, I combined multiple skills I learnt throughout this course such as long exposure, sequence photography and portraits. This shoot relates to events because to probably the biggest events my generation has ever faced, and maybe will ever face as the whole world is involved.
Throughout this project, I think I have developed my skills in how to aesthetically frame images to make them pleasing on the eye and my editing skills, through the sequence photography. I also think I have become much creative with my experimental, which has allowed me to explore many other forms of editing of my photos.
I am disappointed I wasn’t able to finish this project as I had hoped, as due to coronavirus I was limited to only shooting in and around my house, thus I couldn’t go to other locations, which would have allowed me to capture more intriguing photos. However due to being stuck inside it in a way benefitted me as I had to think outside the box and be more creative with my limited resources, which I think resulted in a very successful final piece.
Overall, I am pleased with this project because although I found it difficult and stressful at times, not only has it taught be photography skills, but it has taught me other skills, such as time management which will be very helpful later in life.
